4th of July Weekend,2019 ~ Lebanon, Ohio

It seemed to take forever for us to get on the road but FINALLY! Thankfully it wasn’t a long drive and I enjoyed seeing all the farmlands from the backroads of Ohio!

The wide open spaces of Ohio!

We got to our campsite and got all set up only to discover our campsite was infested with ticks! I had to stay indoors since ticks find me very attractive! My peeples went to the store and got some bug spray, Deet and a vacuum and they cleaned the entire camper down to ensure we were tick free! And then we ate dinner, sooper late! But that’s okay – I still had some pork rinds and Bit O Honey to nibble on from the Road Trip stockpile.

They slept in on Friday morning since we were up so late the night before. And I waited as patiently as I knew how for one of them to wake up and make me some coffee. And then we were off on our bike ride. It was kind of hot and humid but zooming along the trails kept me cool and my wool from getting out of control.

Cool green tunnel of the bike path

We left the Countryside YMCA in Lebanon and took the Lebanon Countryside Trail through some lovely wide open country – it felt like I could see forever.

A delicate doe watching with wary eyes

I could even see King’s Island from the pathway! After five miles, the bike path connects to the Little Miami Scenic Trail, where we were soon enveloped by the coolness of the forest! I really enjoyed this trip I bet it is stunning in the fall when all the leaves are showcasing their glorious colors.

Little Miami Scenic Trail is abundant with thick foliage

We arrived back into Lebanon and explored the historic downtown area. For a small town, Lebanon has a lot of wonderful little stores, shops and eateries!

Ginormous cherries

We had lunch at the Old Village Parlor! It was very quaint and they had an old fashioned soda pop counter! Plus two ginormous cherries!

Also, did you know that Harper Valley PTA was filmed here? I didn’t! Barbara Eden! sigh

The lovely and beautiful Barbara Eden

Overall, Lebanon was a delightful town to visit. With lots to see and do here and nearby.

Celebrating the 4th with lots of civic pride

And I even made a new friend.

My new friend – Gigi

On Saturday we drove down to Cincinnati to spend the day. We went to the Cincinnati Art Museum and they had a really cool Burning Man exhibit taking place. But there were so many other beautiful pieces of art to look at and appreciate as well.

This is the Shrumen Lumen designed by FoldHaus – it’s really cool. You wait for the circle on the floor to turn green, you step on it and the giant mushroom changes shape!

It’s a bloomn’
Now it’s shroomn’

The museum had such a wide variety of art – dating way back to like BC! Who knew Cincinnati had ancient treasures? In the early 1900’s it was on the cutting edge of pottery technology and is still well known for it’s pottery!

“Sunflower Seeds” by Sugirua Yasuyoshi ~ “This is a mediation on the cycle of nature rooted in clay, expressed through clay.”

I really enjoyed the texture and feeling of this piece. It was made completely out of clay and made to look like a sunflower.

I learned that art isn’t just paintings on a wall. It can be musical too like Aaron Taylor Kuffners’s, Gamelatron Bidadari. We sat for a few moments and listened to all the different tones and the feelings it evoked. I like Art! I can’t wait to explore more!

Then there was this Hybycozo installation where you could go inside the dodecahedron! Between the light, shadows and the mirrors it gave a surreal experience.

I felt like I was in a dream world!

If you are in the Cincinnati area I highly recommend the Cincinnati Art musuem and it’s FREE!!!

The art museum sits up on a bluff overlooking the lovely city of Cincinnati

We then headed to the riverfront for lunch at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse. The food was most delicious and we got a table next to the window so I could watch traffic move up and down the Ohio River.

I could barely eat with all the exciting activity on the water
It was very exciting to see a riverboat paddling down the river
I’m big on the pig
I’m a careful eater and did not need a bib, nor did I make a mess

After a late lunch, we went to a 3D movie. Where I got to eat lots of popcorn and junior mints.

A lovely way to end our trip

Then we headed back to our camper and I slept very well after a busy day.

All in all, I really enjoyed our little adventure in Lebanon OH. A little history, a little culture, some exercise and fresh air. I definitely would come back and spend a long weekend here again.

May 21, 2018 ~ Skagway, Alaska

Today was overcast with a promise of rain, but it didn’t!  It was cool, luckily my wool kept me toasty!  I found Skagway beautiful! I haven’t found any place in Alaska that I find ugly – the views are stunning everywhere I think! We slept in a little this morning as our excursion wasn’t until 11:45!

My arrival in beautiful Skagway!

Had a delicious breakfast and then hopped on a bus over to the train depot! We took a combo trip on the White Pass and Yukon Railway! That means we took the train up to Fraser Meadows and a bus back down to Skagway!

ALL ABOARD the White Pass and Yukon Railway!

The White Pass and Yukon Railway originally was a railroad used to transport gold prospectors from Skagway AK to Carcross in the Yukon. Construction began in 1898 and finished in 1900 but by then the gold rush was mostly over. It is a narrow gauge railroad, which means it’s width is smaller than the standard size of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in). In this instance the width between the train tracks is 3 feet!

The headphones did not fit very well but I managed.

On our train ride, we got to listen to a pre-recorded information of the region. We had our choice of listening in 7 different languages! The headphones did not fit very well but I managed.

There were some incredible views!

This bridge, when built in 1901, was the tallest cantilever bridge in the world.

Bridal Veil Falls

Going around a curve!

One of the river crossings.

Entering Tunnel Mountain!

I enjoyed the train ride immensely!

Each train car had a heater to keep all the passengers comfy!

The warmth of the train and the gentle rocking may have put me to sleep…

Between White Pass Summit and Fraser Meadows the environment is pretty harsh. Those tiny trees are 100 years old – they don’t get any bigger than a few feet high!

I had a great time on the White Pass & Yukon Railway!

And I made a new friend!
